Our Strength Training Program in Parramatta has been specifically developed to use exercise prescription as an intervention for patients who require treatment for various chronic diseases. Research based evidence has demonstrated that the modality of exercises prescribed can significantly influence patient outcomes. There is significant evidence suggesting that implementing a strength training program in conjunction with aerobic exercise can be extremely effective in treating multiple chronic diseases.

The term ‘Exercise is Medicine’ is becoming an increasingly known and used treatment option in the prevention, treatment and management for individuals with chronic disease. Similar to drug therapy, a single bout of exercise produces a dose related response, which causes multiple physiological changes to occur within the body. Different pathologies require a specific type of dose response, which is affected by the mode and type of activity, frequency of activity, intensity and duration of activity.

Our brand new facility operating out of the Parramatta region provides a privately operated clinical setting with multiple specialty strength training machines. Whilst exercising at our clinic you will be guided through your specific program to ensure all exercise is completed safely and effectively.

All patients that exercise at Back to Basics® Health & Exercise remain under constant reduced supervision by qualified and experienced Exercise Physiologists. The program is designed to cater for individuals from all ages and fitness levels. If you are functionally restricted or have limited exercise experience this would be an ideal program for you.

Getting Started: Initial Consultation

Before performing any form of physical activity, Back to Basics® requires patients to undergo an initial assessment to determine your suitability to commence a regular exercise program. During this consultation, you will be asked a series of questions regarding your current health status followed by your functional capacity being assessed. All the information gathered during this assessment is then used as your baseline measures for comparison when you are reassessed at a later date.

After the initial assessment your Exercise Physiologist will schedule a second appointment with you to discuss the proposed treatment, anticipated outcomes and overcome any potential barriers. You will then be introduced to your exercise program and familiarised with the strength equipment.

Treatment Cycles

During the assessment phase, your Exercise Physiologist will propose a treatment plan for you to follow over the course of 8 to 12 weeks depending on the condition you present with. Generally, patients gain improvements from attending the clinic 2 to 3 times per week. Some patients may require more than one treatment cycle.

Home-based Exercise

If appropriate, you may receive a home-based program or walking program in addition to attending the Strength Clinic. Functional exercises are prescribed to imitate activities of daily living, which will generally complement your strength training program.
